Pre-Summer madness!

I love the sunshine! I love that it is a perfect temperature outside...not to hot and none to cold. It is wonderful seeing the fruits of my labors growing in the neat little rows of my garden! The magic of seeing something that looked like a dust particle becoming a lovely flower or vegetable. I am excited by the on-coming of summer with the freshness of life all around me.

Trains....

From the time I was a child I have been fascinated with trains, train cars & train tracks and especially old trains. I don't know if it is the idea of the train or the nostalgia, but I there is something captivating about it all. This summer I am going to be trying to capture as many trains and train tracks as I can and try to see where it takes me. It isn't an endeavor in artistry, but more like an effort in obsession to see what it is that I am so interested in. For I really can't put my finger on it.

Perhaps when this summer is over I will know exactly what it is or just be encouraged by my efforts to continue on in this sort of unusual desire to photograph these sundry items associated with trains....I don't know for certain.

One thing is for sure I am going to have a great time doing it and I have thus far.

It's raining, but it IS Washington...

It is raining, but it IS Washington! I mean the fact that our choices in life keep us here means that we know enough to know that rain is part of the way of life in this lovely green state. I would say that I hated the rain, but I don't. I love the green all around too much to see it die away from days upon days of dry sunny weather. That isn't to say that I love how cold it is on these rainy, blustery day....because I don't. I want their to be rain with a hint of warmth so that I am not so chilled to bone. But again that is the wonder of Washington and the beauty of sweater.

It is true, I love the warm crackle of a fire and the fluffy comfort of a over sized sweater or blanket. There is nothing so wonderful and warming my cold little toes on my husband's leg or to bundle up by the window with a really good book. What could be any better? I can't think of anything better right now. So I am going to get a book, gather my kids and read it to them under a big comfy blanket.

Wishing Every Mom.....

We here at DJMdesigns would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the moms a very Happy Mother's Day! There is no one more special than a mother and their is no mother out there that doesn't deserve that recognition not just one day but every day of the year! So enjoy this "official" day with your your family, relax and let the husband do it all and most of all realize that the best blessings come from the children in your life.

The second sitting for the newborn!

We had our other sitting with this beautiful little girl yesterday! I love, just love the pictures of her and how well they turned out... It is amazing to me how precious these little ones are and am hopeful that I might find myself with the prospect of a few more opportunities like this. Nothing says joy like making these pictures sing with beauty and joy.

I can't say how much I felt at the news that the parents were overjoyed with their happiness with the outcome of each little picture and I am getting to that point where I am growing in my confidence in my own abilities as the things that I think up in my mind translate into what I hoped them to be...not to mention the fact that self-gratification that comes when the client likes the pictures as much as you do. I loved taking these pictures a lot and as usual have decided these were the best ones yet. (Until the next time I suppose.)

First Set of New Born Baby Pictures!!!!

Okay, so I have taken my first newborn pictures! It is so exciting and the parents are letting me sort of do my thing...it has been fun. One of the major problems with being an on-site photographer is that you get pigeon-holed as just a wedding photographer. So when the occasion arises and I am given the opportunity to let my artistic eyes shine...well it really makes my day. There is nothing more exciting than letting those creative juices flow and the gratification that I feel when I see how well it turns out (just the way I wanted it to). Every time I do a sitting I find that I love the pictures better each time. (Perhaps it is prejudice, but I can't help myself!) We have another sitting tomorrow, so there will be more pictures coming!

I have been very lucky to be so busy and I am hoping that senior pictures arise her
e in the near future. I have a few leads, but I haven't gotten any sort of confirmation about the specifics yet. That is the next set of things that I would love to do...just so that I can say that I have.

We SURVIVED!

WE SURVIVED! The weather began as a wet, cold, gusty mess that ripped through the fair like a kamikaze attack destroying whatever it could in its path! We missed the destruction, fortunately, but endured the wet cold day with a certain stubbornness that bespoke of not letting Mother Nature get us down! Both my husband and I were chilled to the bone and wet through and through! We had all of two customers on Saturday (they were either brave or insane to even want to be out on a day like that) and the bleakness of the clouds were a match to the bleakness of the moods of the few people that were wandering about. We made it the whole day without jumping ship though! When it was time to leave we rushed home with the zeal of children being let out at recess. It was a short time after we left that the tragedy struck! A torrent of wind whipped through the little fair much like a tornado ripping apart and rending the tents and canopies from their staked posts. Luckily we had wisely decided to take everything in our booth home that evening or it would have all been for naught. The canopies, however, were not so lucky. They very well have seen their last days of usage on this earth. The leg on one snapped after it took a trip across the ground and the other had landed on it's head bending it's top inward.

We showed up the next day and the vision of the damage was a little more than dev
astating to our morale, but after we managed to tape the pieces back together and salvage the lost coverings we began to feel so much better about the whole thing. Sunday was a breath of fresh air as the sun began to peek through the clouds and the gray bleak sky was replaced with blue sky and fluffy white clouds. Our spirits rose! We started having a better attitude about the day and smiles donned our faces. People began to so show up in droves and we were successful at last! Of course not nearly as successful as it could have been, but it was better than nothing at all. Even the other vendors seemed to perk up and smile more, each venturing out to check out other booths. It was nice to see it after the dark and dismal day before and I was relieved that the I got to have one fun day out of the two. Overall, I will do the fair again and we are excited to try more of them, but we agree that we will definitely be better prepared and hope for the opportunity of taking fun pictures and showing more people my other work!

We don't have the other pictures completely ready for the website, but we will be posting them as soon as they are!
