We SURVIVED!
WE SURVIVED! The weather began as a wet, cold, gusty mess that ripped through the fair like a kamikaze attack destroying whatever it could in its path! We missed the destruction, fortunately, but endured the wet cold day with a certain stubbornness that bespoke of not letting Mother Nature get us down! Both my husband and I were chilled to the bone and wet through and through! We had all of two customers on Saturday (they were either brave or insane to even want to be out on a day like that) and the bleakness of the clouds were a match to the bleakness of the moods of the few people that were wandering about. We made it the whole day without jumping ship though! When it was time to leave we rushed home with the zeal of children being let out at recess. It was a short time after we left that the tragedy struck! A torrent of wind whipped through the little fair much like a tornado ripping apart and rending the tents and canopies from their staked posts. Luckily we had wisely decided to take everything in our booth home that evening or it would have all been for naught. The canopies, however, were not so lucky. They very well have seen their last days of usage on this earth. The leg on one snapped after it took a trip across the ground and the other had landed on it's head bending it's top inward.
We showed up the next day and the vision of the damage was a little more than devastating to our morale, but after we managed to tape the pieces back together and salvage the lost coverings we began to feel so much better about the whole thing. Sunday was a breath of fresh air as the sun began to peek through the clouds and the gray bleak sky was replaced with blue sky and fluffy white clouds. Our spirits rose! We started having a better attitude about the day and smiles donned our faces. People began to so show up in droves and we were successful at last! Of course not nearly as successful as it could have been, but it was better than nothing at all. Even the other vendors seemed to perk up and smile more, each venturing out to check out other booths. It was nice to see it after the dark and dismal day before and I was relieved that the I got to have one fun day out of the two. Overall, I will do the fair again and we are excited to try more of them, but we agree that we will definitely be better prepared and hope for the opportunity of taking fun pictures and showing more people my other work!
We don't have the other pictures completely ready for the website, but we will be posting them as soon as they are!
