Beauty can be something ugly sometimes....

Purdy Canyon Swamp April 2009

Sometimes things that seem ugly at first and there is death all around, like this swamp until you take the time to look deeper at the beauty that lies beneath the death and sparse branches of the naked trees and the oily, murky waters that on first appearances seem dirty and dark. My camera has helped to see all of the beauty that is there and the way the trees and the sunlight reflect on that same murky water and the colors that leap from the world around those trees like a frame on a painting. Until I took the time to see it all through the lens of my camera in ways that I would have never seen with my eyes.

Patterns, Textures & Designs

I love patterns, textures and designs. Whether it is architecture, or something as common as a vent cover. Photography helps me explore and express those things that I see and translate them for everyone else.

Pictures from the weekend (June 7)

Busy Days....

This weekend was a busy, chaotic mess of appointments, commitments and disasterously dirty house issues (due to the busy schedule) and even though it made my time whiz right by it was more than worth it. Walking for a good cause, great pictures and time with the three most important people in my life....what could be better than that? I tell you nothing....I just feel like this summer is going to be the most amazing summer yet, since I have been married. Positivity flows through me and I know things are going to be great. Good things are coming our way and I think this might the moment that my business sees some good things.

Loss of Childhood Smiles....

The summer sun is coming and the fun that happens during those lovely days bring out the best in photos. There is nothing like the well-taken picture in the natural light of the day. I love the mid-70's temperatures to make the day perfect. I don't relish the upper 80's and 90's (too hot!) but they do make for nice lighting, if done correctly and anything cooler can make for uncomfortable smiles. I think that the best pictures are the ones that the subject never knows that he or she is having their pictures taken. Children are my favorite subjects since they haven't obtained that over-contrived self-consciousness that we adults seem to acquire in our adolescence.

The pictures taken are still nice, but a formed, thought out smile emerges and that carelessness of youth fades away into it. Oh, to be young again and haven't the cares of the world to contend with! It does go by fast and before we all know it our children have become aware....I try to capture all of the moments of my children and love that they have had some extended stays in childhood in this world where that ends too soon.

Another wonderful weekend of fun and playfulness! I love taking pictures and when you have models like these it makes it easy!
